AIMED Point Shooting or P&SBy John Veit

AIMED Point Shooting or P&S is a very simple, fast, and accurate method of shooting.

It could make the difference between your living or dying in a Close Quarters life threat situation, where there is the greatest chance of being shot and/or killed.

P&S can be learned with little or no training, and maintained with minimal practice. It can be used in good light or bad, when moving, against moving targets, and even against small fast moving aerials.

With P&S, you get automatic and correct sight alignment, plus automatic and correct sight placement. Both are critical to accuracy.

P&S is the simplest of shooting methods, and as such, it is more efficient at Close Quarters than other shooting methods.

This book provides the facts, data, and scientific information that support its use.

With P&S, you GRAB your gun firmly - with your index finger placed along the side - POINT your index finger at the target - and PULL the trigger with your middle finger.

That is it in a nutshell, and the U.S. Army says that it works.

Here's language found in the US Army Field Manual 3-23.35: Combat Training With Pistols M9 AND M11 (June, 2003), about our ability to point accurately.

"Everyone has the ability to point at an object....

"When a soldier points, he instinctively points at the feature on the object on which his eyes are focused. An impulse from the brain causes the arm and hand to stop when the finger reaches the proper position.

"When the eyes are shifted to a new object or feature, the finger, hand, and arm also shift to this point.

"It is this inherent trait that can be used by a soldier to rapidly and accurately engage targets."

This method of shooting, which I call P&S, has been around since the early 1800's, but it has not been widely accepted as the "go to" method for CQB situations.

That is understandable, as Military manuals on the 1911, which was the standard issue sidearm of U.S. forces for 70 years, cautioned against its use due to the 1911's slide stop design.

Here's that cautionary language from the original manual on the 1911: "3. The trigger should be pulled with the forefinger. If the trigger is pulled with the second finger, the forefinger extending along the side of the receiver is apt to press against the projecting pin of the slide stop and cause a jam when the slide recoils."

That same language, or language close to it, is in other 1911 manuals published up until the 1940's.

The slide stop design could have been fixed, but that was not done. And as such, our armed military forces were denied the option of using P&S for 70+ years.

What is not known is the number of military and civilian casualties attributable to not being able to use this simple, fast, and accurate method of shooting.

What we do know is that Sight Shooting, which has been taught to our Police and Military for over 100 years, is not, or can not be used in most all Close Quarters Battle situations due to a variety of factors that are detailed in this book.

That fact does not sit well with some trainers and Sight Shooting purists who advocate that one must always use the sights, and who are quick to attack and ridicule anyone who questions the traditional and institutionalized dogma, or brings up alternative ways of self defense shooting.

Shooting methods such as Pistol Quick Kill, Rifle Quick Kill, Target Focus Fighting, and the C.A.R. method of gun fighting are discussed. And there is information on the method of shooting developed in the early 1900's in China by Fairbairn and Sykes, and which also was taught to U.S. forces during WWII. The NRA now supports the use of Point Shooting for self defense.

The information in this book flows from the originators or their papers, from studies and stats on the area of Close Quarters Combat and self defense, and from my shooting tests.
